Yesterday was kinda my first day of class, but not really. I just had to take the placement exam (which btw OWNED me like no other). Chiara couldn’t come with us to school, so her friend Martina took us instead. She was super nice and spoke great English. I wanna make more friends with Italian students! I go to the University of Florence but my department is only for foreign students, so we don’t get to mingle much with other Italians. These foreign students all seem to speak really great Italian compared to Mildred & I though, so we’re a bit intimidated. I took the intermediate exam (bad idea) and made myself look like a fool. Apparently, their “elementary Italian” means you need to speak or at least understand fluent Italian. WAHHH. I miss Professor Marino from UCLA! He was the best!
Today was our actual first day of lesson. Martina took us to school again, and I hope that we get to see her again and hang out sometime! And I secretly wanna ride on her vespa. haha. Anyway, school was great! I love my Italian class and Professor Ferrari. She’s so funny and entertaining. After class, there was this welcome assembly, where the director of the school or something spoke. I couldn’t understand most of the speech, but it’s all good. After that, I hit up the snack table. I found out that Italians like to snack on olives, cheese, bread, and other non-junk food. Hm. For the drinks, they had wine. Yup, in school. And keep in mind this was in the early morning. Very fancy. We walked around the city (apparently, this is an everyday activity) and then went home to rest a little. We had some issues with our cellphones and other stuff, so it kinda killed the mood. But after a while, we decided to take another stroll. This seemed to lighten up the mood again. We randomly decided to take a hike up to Piazzale Michelangelo (which took FOREVER). We took the loooong way as opposed to the shortcut. Oops. Or shall I say, “Mama Mia!” But it was a great escape out of the city. The view from up there is amazing. The pictures definitely don’t do it justice. so we chilled up there a bit and hiked back down (of course, through the short way this time). As a reward for all our hard work, we went to get pizza afterwards. ‘Pizza a peso’ or pizza by weight is my dream come true. It was so delicious, soo fresh! I can’t wait to try the other toppings :) After that, we went home and studied Italian and did our 1st homework assignment. haha Yeah, it’s Thursday night and I have school (early) tomorrow. Wahhh. But it was a great day nonetheless!
